Aquarium
of the Pacific in
Long Beach was built on what used to be the called the
Pike. The historic Long Beach Pike amusement park was
demolished years ago and replaced by condominiums, the
Long beach Convention Center and the Aquarium of the Pacific.
The new name for this area of Long Beach is The Pike at
Rainbow Harbor. A pedestrian bridge over Shoreline Drive
is made to look like the Pike's roller coaster. These
day families looking for a fun day head to the aquarium.
Aquarium of the Pacific and The Queen
Mary are the two main attractions along with a variety
of restaurants, entertainment venues, Ferris wheel and
open-air marketplace. During season you can take a whale
watching cruise from Rainbow Harbor in the morning and
then visit the Aquarium in the afternoon.
Aquarium of the Pacific houses more than 12,500 ocean
animals in 19 major habitats and 32 focus exhibits. Plan
on spending at least a half day viewing all the exhibits
and displays. There are two 3D attractions: A Fish Story
3D and Monsters of the Abyss 3-D. Both of these films
cost an additional fee for each guest.
If you pay full price, a day at the aquarium for a family
of four is going to cost about $85.00 with parking. With
discount tickets you should be able to save at least 20%.

attractions in Southern California and a perfect place

Lorikeet Forest-- Feed colorful birds from down under in
the Aquarium of the Pacific's Lorikeet Forest aviary. More
than 100 enthusiastic Lorikeets fill the trees of their
5,200 sq. ft. outdoor exhibit. For $3.00, Aquarium guests
can purchase a small cup of the Lorikeet’s favorite
food—nectar. Simply by holding a cup of nectar in
their outstretched hands, guests enjoy the opportunity to
feed these friendly birds.
Shark Lagoon — The Aquarium of the
Pacific features our nation’s first full-scale shark
touch exhibit. Guests will discover more than 200 sharks
in this ultimate interactive exhibit. They will get closer
to sharks than they ever imagined, and come face-to-face
with large sharks, sand tiger, nurse, blacktip and whitetip
reef, and even touch gentle sharks, such as zebra, epaulette,
and bamboo Shark feeding presentations at 11 a.m. and 2
p.m.
Whales: A Journey with Giants — Step
into the wondrous world of whales at the Aquarium of the
Pacific in Whales: A Journey with Giants. Through a compelling
multi-sensory experience of light, sound, and imagery, the
Aquarium’s Great Hall will transform into the underwater
realm of the planet’s largest living animal—the
blue whale. found in their local waters. The Aquarium of
the Pacific is the first aquarium in the world to successfully
breed and raise these delicate creatures.
Sea Dragon Exhibit — Visitors have the opportunity
to see weedy sea dragons, which are native to Australia
and resemble the plants.

Daily
Presentations, Films, and Programs —The Aquarium offers
daily presentations with its seals and sea lions, sea otters,
and sharks as well as underwater presentations with divers,
who are equipped with microphones. The Marine Life Theater
offers daily interactive family programs, and the Honda
Theater offers films that relate to our ocean planet, including
3D films.
Aquarium of the Pacific is the first aquarium
in the United States to open a carbon-neutral building with
the expansion of its visitor space and a new “green”
area, which provides vital information for guests of all
ages to help California deal with its impending water crisis.
The new space includes an interactive environmental exhibition,
classroom with a “green roof”, and native landscaping
garden.
