Southern California Deserts
Calico Ghost Town
One of the few remaining original mining towns of the west. Many historic buildings to explore. Nice rest stop on the way to Las Vegas. Camping and RV parking available.
Palm Springs Tram
The most spectacular views in Southern California. Tram cars depart at least every 30 minutes. Ride from the desert to the mountains. Dress warm for the mountain top.
Cabot's Pueblo Museum
One of Southern California's most extraordinary buildings. A 35-room rustic “castle” built by hand. Desert Hot Springs, California.
Palm Springs Air Museum
One of the world's largest collections of flying warplanes. Open seven days a week, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
The Living Desert Zoo
Plants and animals of the Southern California desert. This is a great family day trip there is something interesting for all age groups.
Pioneer Town
Built in 1946 as a movie set for western movies. During the summer months mock gunfights are held on Main Street

Joshua Tree National Park
Two deserts each with it's own characteristics.Five fan palm oases also dot the park. Spring flowers are a must see.
Death Valley National Park
One of the hottest places on the surface of the Earth. Also the driest place in North America.
Indian Canyons
Great places to hike in the Palm Springs Area. Ranger Led Interpretive Hikes open year round.
Borrego Springs
Hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails, 12 wilderness areas. Surrounded by Anza-Borrego park.
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park
The largest desert state park in the contiguous United States. Wildflowers from late February through March.
Afton Canyon Natural Area
This area is ideal for hiking, hunting, camping, nature study. One of few places where the Mojave River flows above ground.
Kelso Dune complex
The biggest dune is over 600 feet tall
. Climbers are rewarded with a view of the Mojave National Preserve.

Built in 1942 the depot is now a visitor center with a museum, theater, and book store

Big Morongo Canyon Preserve
Trails and boardwalks through the marsh and stream habitats, meander through the Preserve.
Nipton California

Calico Early Man Site
15 miles northeast of Barstow, California .Primitive stone tools in this area.
Salton Sea State park
The park has five campgrounds. More than 400 species of birds have been found here.
