Dana Point Ocean Institute

The Ocean Institute in Dana Point is open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Unique maritime and ocean-themed items are available in the Chambers Gallery every day, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Located at 24200 Dana Point Harbor Drive, Dana Point, in beautiful Dana Point Harbor along the coast of Southern California. Visitors can view hundreds of marine animals in aquaria and touch tanks, witness animal feedings and enjoy ocean-themed exhibits. The Institute is ajacent to the Dana Point Marine Life Refuge; Institute scientists lead regular tours of its tide pools as well.

For an additional charge, visitors can take marine mammal cruises onboard the Institute’s R/V Sea Explorer and have the opportunity, depending on the season, to view gray or blue whales.

The Institute also is home to two tall ships, the Spirit of Dana Point and Pilgrim; the Institute offers cruises onboard the Spirit, also for an additional charge. The Pilgrim is open for interactive tours most Sundays from 11 am to 3:30 pm, which is included with the price of admission.

The Ocean Institute facilities also offer spring and summer marine science and maritime history programs. Monday through Friday, the Institute welcomes groups of school children for marine science and maritime history programs. The facilities are also available to rent for birthday parties, receptions, meetings and other special events.

Directions:Take the I-5 freeway to Dana Point Traveling south from Irvine: Exit the Pacific Coast Highway off ramp& veer right. Turn left onto Dana Point Harbor Drive and follow it to parking lot.

Traveling north from San Diego: Exit the Beach Cities off ramp and veer left. Turn left onto Dana Point Harbor Drive and follow it to parking lot.
