Griffith
Park has something for everyone. The parks is home to
the LA Zoo, Griffith
Observatory, Travel Town, Autry
National Center
and The Greek Theater. Activities include hiking, golf, horseback riding, jogging,
swimming and tennis. Griffith Park is the largest municipal park with urban wilderness
area in the United States with over 4,210 acres. Hikers are allowed to use the
entire 53-mile network of trails, fire roads and bridle paths. One of the most
popular hikes in the park is the trail leading from the observatory parking
lot to the summit of Mount Hollywood. Hikers are rewarded with
spectacular views of the entire Los Angeles Basin. Plan on spending an entire
day exploring the park.

Griffith
Park offers numerous family attractions, an assortment
of educational and cultural
institutions. There are three places to ride trains in
the park, Travel
Town Museum, La Live Steamers and the Griffith Park & Southern
Railroad. Two of the most visited attractions are the LA
Zoo and the Griffith
Observatory. For entertainment
people head to the Greek Theater, Los Angeles' premiere
outdoor theatre. Griffith Park is open to the public
from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Bridle trails, hiking paths,
and mountain roads are closed at sunset. Open fires are
prohibited; barbecue pits are provided free of charge
at picnic areas.

Griffith Park lies just west
of the Golden State Freeway (I-5), roughly between Los Feliz
Boulevard on
the south and the Ventura Freeway (SR 134) on the north. Freeway
off-ramps leading to the park from I-5 are Los Feliz Boulevard,
Griffith Park (direct entry) and Zoo Drive. Approaching the
park on SR 134 eastbound, take either the Forest Lawn Drive
or Victory Boulevard off ramps. From SR 134 westbound, take
Zoo Drive or Forest Lawn Drive. After leaving freeways, follow
the signs into the park.
