Knott's Berry Farm or as it is being called these day Knott's Theme Park had it's humble beginnings as a roadside stand along Highway 39. The farm sold berries, berry plants and pies. To help support the farm, Knott's wife Cordelia sold chicken dinners to passing motorists. Within a few years the chicken dinners became so popular there were lines waiting to eat her now famous chicken. Walter Knott added attractions to help entertain people while they waited for the chicken dinners. He built a ghost town using buildings relocated from real old west towns. Then a narrow-gauge train ride, a pan-for-gold area, and the Calico Mine Ride. In 1968, the Knott family fenced the farm and charged admission for the first time.
Knotts Theme Park
The Knott's family continued to add rides and attractions up until 1997, when the Knott family sold the amusement park operations to Cedar Fair. Since the take over, Knott's is now dominated by roller coasters, and much of the original charm has been lost. You can still find some of the old berry farm attractions, the ghost town section is still there and the chicken dinners are just as good as ever. For kids Camp Snoopy is a real favorite and the younger crowd can enjoy all the high tech rides. But the older folks are going to be a little sad to see what the farm is these days.
