Ojai Day
is a the annual downtown street fair hosted by the Recreation
Department but it’s not your ordinary festival –
it’s a cultural explosion bursting with art, food,
spiritual incantations, multi-ethnic celebrations and
good old fashion fun and games.
Ojai Day offers a little something for everyone and tops
it off with Ojai’s unique character. Before event
day, starting at 10 p.m. on Friday night, adults can come
to the intersection of Signal Street and Ojai Avenue to
help create the beautiful mandala painting, always a signature
part of the Ojai Day experience.
Mandala Painting Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday night before
Ojai Day, adults can help create the centerpiece of the
event, the beautiful mandala painting at the intersection
of Signal Street and Ojai Avenue.
Ojai Day was first celebrated in
the 1920's after glass magnate Edward Libbey offered to
finance the construction of the downtown Arcade, present
day Libbey Park and the post office with its 65-foot bell
tower. Ojai's most prominent citizens decided to host
a city wide celebration to show their appreciation to
Libbey. Thus, Ojai Day was born.
