Astronomer
George Ellery Hale, whose vision created the Palomar Observatory,
built the world's largest telescope four times. This 200-inch
telescope at Mount Palomar was the most important telescope
in the world from 1949 until 1992 when the Keck I telescope,
387 inches, on Mauna Kea in Hawaii became the world's
largest.
