2026 LA County Fair on a Budget: Discounts, Free Days & Money-Saving Tips
The LA County Fair returns to Pomona May 7–31, 2026, with the fun theme “Play Your Way.” As the largest county fair in the world, it draws nearly 800,000 visitors annually for an unbeatable mix of carnival rides, live concerts, farm animals, interactive exhibits, shopping, and over-the-top fair food. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker, foodie, or family looking for affordable summer kicks, this guide shows exactly how to enjoy the fair without overspending. From cheap ticket hacks and ride deals to smart food strategies, you’ll discover how to maximize fun while minimizing costs at Southern California’s ultimate family playground.
A Brief History of the LA County Fair
The LA County Fair first opened its gates on October 17, 1922, in a former beet and barley field in Pomona. Organized by local businessmen to promote agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry in the Southwest, the inaugural event drew nearly 50,000 visitors over five days. It quickly grew into a major tradition, interrupted only by World War II (1942–1947) and the COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2021). The fair moved to May dates in recent years for better weather, and 2026 marks its 104th anniversary. Today, the Fairplex grounds host not just the fair but year-round events, including the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum and RailGiants Train Museum.
Rides and Attractions: Thrills for Every Budget
Ray Cammack Shows returns for its 40th year, delivering dozens of rides and games in the Fun Zone—the largest carnival collection in North America. Expect classics like the Ferris wheel alongside modern thrill rides. Families can enjoy gentler options, including a pirate-themed play area at The Lagoon and a new skating rink (Skate-R-Cade).
Don’t miss these highlights:
- Farm and Animal Exhibits: Petting zoo with goats, chickens, pigs, and cows. Learn about organic farming and watch pig races at the Barnyard.
- Fairplex Garden Railroad: The oldest and largest public-operating garden railroad in the U.S.
- Car Show: Hot rods, antique cars, and lowriders.
- Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show: Log-rolling, axe-chopping, and carving demonstrations.
- Museums: Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum and RailGiants Train Museum (free with fair admission).
- New for 2026: Battle Bots-style shows and Pomona Valley Poetry Fest on select weekends.
Money-saving tip: Buy a $55 carnival wristband (includes unlimited rides + two games and one Titan ride) at on-site booths—cheaper than paying per ride. Look for the Read to Ride program discounts for kids who complete book reports.
Most Popular Food Vendors and Smart Eating Strategies
Fair food is legendary—fried, on a stick, BBQ, and wildly creative. Returning favorites include Chicken Charlie (known for loaded items like fire-roasted chilies with queso and Flaming Hot Cheetos or meatball mozzarella corn dogs), Da Big Show BBQ, Hot Dog on a Stick, Pink’s Hot Dogs, King Taco, Texas Donuts, and After’s Ice Cream. Watch for bold new twists like Mike’s Hot Honey turkey legs, Fruity Pebbles Korean corn dogs, bacon-wrapped pork belly, and pickle lemonade.
Budget hacks: Share oversized portions with your group. Skip daily snacks and focus on one big splurge meal. Bring a reusable water bottle (refill stations available) to avoid pricey drinks. Many vendors offer vegetarian or lighter options to balance the fried favorites. Total food costs can add up fast, so set a per-person limit in advance.
2026 LA County Fair Concert Series Overview
