California State Parks and beach camping reservations can only be made through Reserve California’s website. There are just over 13,000 campsites available on the reservation system. The most sought-after sites are along the beach.
Beach and coastal sites are challenging to secure. Campers can reserve spots up to six months in advance. New inventory becomes available each day for six months in advance. Recreation.gov. Camping Reservations
You will need to create an account with Recreation.gov. Payments for campgrounds are made online. Federal campgrounds, lakes, rivers, and Backcountry Campsite can all be reserved at Recreation.gov. Website. You can also pick up day permits and passes on their website. It is not as critical for Federal camping reservations as Reserve California, except for popular destinations. Camping is a viral activity, especially along the California coast. Plan well in advance if you hope to secure a prime beach camping spot. Your best bet is to reserve a site during the off-season, November through the beginning of March. Private campgrounds are also an option but expect to pay a premium price.
