The Dana Point Ocean Institute makes a great day trip destinations for children and young adults. Visitors can view hundreds of marine animals in aquariums and touch tanks, witness animal feedings and enjoy ocean-theme exhibits.
The Ocean Institute also is home to two tall ships, the Spirit of Dana Point and Pilgrim; the Institute offers cruises onboard the Spirit, also for an additional charge.
The Pilgrim is open for interactive tours most Sundays from 11 am to 3:30 pm, which is included with the price of admission.
For an additional charge, visitors can take whale watching trips onboard the Institute’s R/V Sea Explorer and have the opportunity, depending on the season, to view gray or blue whales.
The Institute is adjacent to the Dana Point Marine Life Refuge; Institute scientists lead regular tours of its tide pools as well.
The Dana Point Ocean Institute also offers spring and summer marine science and maritime history programs.
